Exchanges and Workshops

What are dance exchanges and workshops?

Historically, a group of dancers traveled to a city and danced at those local venues for a week. They would meet with the local dancers, eat at their favorite restaurants and dance at their favorite places. In exchange, local dancers from that city banded together to return the favor by visiting their cities. This idea of a dance exchange was borne and refined to include live music and special venues that can handle a larger crowd.

Exchanges are dance events targeted to draw in both out of town dancers and local dancers to a single place, and to dance with local dancers. Lindy exchanges are designed to highlight the city’s and the community established in that scene. By drawing in dancers from out of town, exchanges help increase the quantity and the quality of skilled dancers, as well as making new friends across country. San Diego has its own lindy exchange; be on the lookout for the dates!

A workshop is an exchange that also includes dance classes and competitions throughout the day. It’s purpose is to draw in international level instructors and offer students the opportunity to take specialized topics.

We have the following local workshop events for lindy hop and swing.
